Words from my co-workers…
"I worked with Arnav on the Multi-Device Experience project within Samsung's IoT & Wearables team, and what stood out most was how naturally he thought in systems rather than screens. While the rest of us were often heads down on individual flows, he'd already be thinking about how the experience held together across devices, a rare instinct that came, I think, from his background as an architect and industrial designer. That background made him a true end to end thinker; he could take a fuzzy, abstract idea and picture exactly how it would actually look and feel, well before the rest of us could get our heads around it. We worked well together because we pushed each other, genuinely, not performatively. There was a comrade like energy to it: we were both invested in getting things right, and that raised the bar for the whole team. Arnav's other real strength was storytelling. He had a knack for taking something messy and technical and turning it into a narrative that stakeholders across functions could actually align around, which mattered a lot on a project with as many moving pieces as ours. If our paths cross again, I'd work with him without hesitation."
"Arnav was part of the MDE and intelligence team where he enthusiastically contributed to two crucial projects; Connected device experiences & Samsung account. He has displayed a solid foundation in design methods and navigates problems with a critical mindset. His critical thinking and meticulous approach to system design helped navigating the complexities of MDE projects. As his Design Manager, I can say with confidence he can be valuable asset to any team looking to solve complex challenges."

Design for Community: A Hand Pump for User Convenience by Arnav Bhagawati
Millions of people have used the India Mark II and III hand pumps for decades. They are incredibly robust, economical to manufacture, and built to withstand harsh public use. But there is another question: how well are they designed for the people who actually use them? This question became the foundation of my Master's thesis at IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay in 2019. Working with Prof. B.K. Chakravarthy and Prof. Anil Gupta, I explored the hand pump not simply as an engineering product, but through the lens of users, communities, culture, environment and design. One of the most fascinating pieces of evidence came from the communities themselves. Across remote parts of India and Africa, people have created their own frugal modifications to the hand pump—revealing needs that the standard product does not always address. The research asks an important design question: When does a highly optimised product become a design that has stopped evolving? In Summer 2023, Prof. B.K. Chakravarthy and I launched a book at IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay documenting this journey and demonstrating how Design Thinking principles and methodologies can be applied to complex, real-world—or “wicked”—problems. This talk walks through that journey: from observing users and understanding context to questioning assumptions and identifying directions for a more human-centred solution. Particularly relevant for design students, UX/product designers, researchers and educators interested in Design Thinking, Human-Centred Design and Social Innovation. Bustling Street of Mumbai, 2019
To me, water colour is like a live theatrical performance unlike takes & edits in movies recorded several times to reach perfection. In water colour, a well planned layering is crucial from lighter to darker tones unlike oil painting. I use no black or white colour in Water Colour paintings, considered a best practice for better results. The whites are nothing but the colour of the paper left untouched, while blacks are a mixer of Burnt Sienna & Prussian Blue. Any stroke that goes wrong, is never wrong in water colour, but part of the making, just like an improvised scene in a theatre.

Modernism
Honesty in design is well explained through exposed structure & materials in Modernism Style of Architecture. No concealment of mistakes or compromised masonry is hidden beneath plasters.
